What's Happening in Lake Norman & Charlotte Right Now

Updated September 28. Fall has officially arrived, the late-September festivals have wrapped, and this week brings Mecktoberfest at Ballantyne, the Renaissance Festival opening at Rural Hill, and the Concord International Festival. Here is the hyper-local update from your Lake Norman insider.

A small-town North Carolina Main Street fall festival at golden hour with string lights, vendor tents, a food truck, and pumpkins and mums lining the street

We have crossed into the last days of September, and around Lake Norman that means the season of everything: the late-September festivals have wrapped, Oktoberfest celebrations are moving to Ballantyne, the harvest markets have closed for the season, and the October calendar is stacked. Whether you live here or you are scouting the area for a move, this is the stretch of the year the region truly shows off.

I am Tiffany Huntoon, a REALTOR and Production Partner on The Lauren Rocco Team at eXp Realty. North Carolina born and raised, I am a veteran of both the Army and Air Force, I spent years in corporate tech sales, and I came home to help families find their own slice of this region. I serve buyers and sellers across Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Charlotte, Concord, and Kannapolis, and I keep these guides updated so you always know what is worth your weekend. So let me tell you what is happening right now, and what to circle before it fills up.

This Week: September 28 - October 4

The Charlotte Film Festival, the Kannapolis market finale, Breakaway, 'Tawba Walk, and Festival in the Park have all wrapped. From here the week belongs to October: Mecktoberfest moving to Ballantyne, the Renaissance Festival opening at Rural Hill, and the Concord International Festival. Here is what to circle.

A note on dates: Event dates and times are published by each town and venue and can shift, so it is always worth confirming with the organizer before you head out.

Live music, North Carolina beer and wine, food trucks, and a kids' zone at Bailey Road Park is exactly what makes the lake towns feel like home. For a date night, the NC Music Hall of Fame Induction in Mooresville on October 15 is a gem.

What's New to Eat & Drink This Fall

The dining and going-out scene has not slowed down all year, and the fresh news this week is as much about Kannapolis and Concord as it is about the lake towns. Here is where to point the car this month.

Kannapolis Is Having a Moment

If I had to name the one town in our region with the most momentum right now, it is Kannapolis. The downtown has added dozens of new businesses in recent years, and this fall a few things come together to make it an easy, genuinely fun destination.

Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes & Farm Fun

Nothing says fall in the Piedmont like a Saturday at a farm. Here are the patches and mazes the locals actually go to, from Huntersville to Mooresville, plus a couple of fresh ones for the season.

Patterson Farm

October weekends Mt. Ulla (near Mooresville) Corn maze . Wagon rides

Charlotte Knights Pumpkin Palooza

October (watch for the date) Truist Field, Charlotte Family-Friendly . One-Day

The Charlotte Knights turn the outfield into a one-day pumpkin patch with live music, a beer garden, and a pumpkin-decorating station. A uniquely Charlotte way to kick off the season. Book when the date is announced, because it sells out.

Outdoor & Family-Friendly: Now Through October

The weather turns toward the best of the year in late September, and the outdoor scene shifts from the water to the trails, the fields, and the harvest festivals. Here is how to spend the next several weekends with the people you love.

U.S. National Whitewater Center

Charlotte Adventure, live music

Whitewater rafting, kayaking, zip lines, and mountain biking, plus the free River Jam concert series. The cooler days of late September and October make the trails and courses even more enjoyable, and the fall colors along the Catawba are a bonus.

Latta Nature Preserve

Huntersville Hiking, wildlife

1,460 acres with 16+ miles of hiking trails, the Carolina Raptor Center, an aquarium, and lake access. As the leaves start to turn, the trails pick up the first hints of color, and the birds of prey flights at the Raptor Center are a highlight for kids and adults alike.

Lake Norman State Park

Troutman Hiking, mountain biking

The swimming beach winds down as the water cools, but the 30+ miles of hiking and mountain biking trails are entering their best season. Autumn is spectacular here, and weekday visits are blissfully quiet.

Friday Night Lights

All seven towns Families, community

As a mom of two high school soccer players, this is my favorite time on the sidelines. Fall in the Lake Norman towns means Friday-night football, weekend soccer on green fields, and the community that turns out for it all. A wonderful way to feel at home fast.

Why This Moment Matters for Homebuyers

As a REALTOR, I love this stretch of the year because it is when so many relocating families turn summer curiosity into real decisions. They have spent the warm months touring the towns, eating at the new restaurants, walking the greenways, and picturing Friday nights on a ballpark lawn. Then the school year starts, the community rallies around a home game or a harvest festival, and the pull to put down roots gets strong.

The momentum in Concord and Kannapolis especially is something to see firsthand. A town's new restaurants, food halls, social districts, and gathering places are the strongest signal of a community that is growing in the right way. That is part of what I look at with every buyer: not just the house, but the life around it.

Whether you are a growing family looking at the right school district in Huntersville or Cornelius, a military family relocating to the region, a first-time buyer exploring Concord or Kannapolis, or someone ready to downsize to the lake, I bring the same strategic approach I used in military intelligence and corporate sales to every client, combined with real local knowledge and warm, down-to-earth care.

If you are even beginning to think about a move, now is a great time to start the conversation. Let us talk about what you are looking for, or explore our community guides and our latest market report to see what is happening in your target town.
